Community
The Society participates in a number of activities which support the local community.
Members maintain the flower beds at St. Mildred's Church as well as the Horse Trough in the High Street.
The Society holds an Annual Charity Plant Sale. The proceeds go to local charities. The sale will be held on Saturday, 25 May 2024 from 9am on Tesco's Forecourt. This is a very popular event.
Plant Sale 2024
The 2023 plant sale raised £which shared between our two chosen charities: Mildred's Trust and The Kench Hill Centre.
This year the Society will hold a Garden Safari on Saturday, 10 June, when members will open their gardens to members of the public for a small fee, which will be donated to a local charity. We raised £1,028 which was donated to The Hub.
The Society donated a Hot Bin to EC30, a charity based in the old East Cross Clinic. Children use their raised beds to grow produce and flowers.
EC30 Raised Beds Improved
A group of enthusiastic Horticulture Society members met up at EC30 with wheelbarrows, shovels and forks at the ready. They spread a trailer load of horse manure compost on each of the raised beds making them ready for planting.
Members of Tenterden & District Horticultual Society have continued to support Social Prescribing by Ivy Court at EC30. Together with patients from the surgery they grew vegetables...runner beans, beetroot, courgettes, squash and lettuce...with great success. Strawberries also did very well. They have taken cuttings for next spring and hundreds of spring bulbs have been planted. They have begun to improve the beds around the surgery.
Scarecrow Saturday
St. Mary's Church in Hothfield had a scarecrow competition, which our Society entered. Much needed funds were raised for the village of Hothfield.
